So if ya did not know, it is President’s Day here in the United States of ‘Murrca, and I thought there could be no better way to honor the accomplishments of our Fore’d Fathers than a mix celebrating our modern hipster youth’s love of shoegaze and electronica! Yes, if you haven’t heard, when they aren’t mocking our Garfield comics and former MTV VJs (leave Pauly Shore alone!), the hip Young Ones of 2011 are mocking our South’s beloved crunk music by melting steamy layers of (English!) shoegaze up on it! Dubbed “witch house” by folks who We trust to be on top of these things, it’s confounding persons performing Google searches for spooky haints and attractions everywhere. Yes it’s a “strange brew” indeed — less “eye of newt” and more Casiotone of course — and I dig it in small doses, best sweetened up with some Pop as is my wont.

The witch’s brewers only represent maybe a fifth of what I’ve concocted here — the rest just seemed to come naturally for a late-Winter mix. Give this one some patience my friends and ne’er fear — I’m sure I’ll return with guitars and/or harpsichords soon!

It’s safe to say I’ve become guarded in my musical tastes — complacent, staid, perfunctory. I squeeze my toothpaste from the back, then fold over. Camera Obscura are back; then again, there’s no Roy Wood on this one.

Here’s a diary. I’ve been listening to Felt and Brinsley Schwarz. Random things leak in, Nicky Hopkins and Denny Laine, Keith Richard’s first solo and Wings. There’s a Harry Nilsson documentary; it was good. Graham Gouldman sez there’ll be no milk today … but there will be a mix!

Oh hai there. I didn’t hear you come in. Yes, welcome to my blog; it has been a long time old friend. A coon’s age. Yes, in the immortal words of Timbaland referencing Rakim, “it has been a long time; I should not have left you witout a dope beat to step to”.

There have been no dope beats to which to step. Not here. If you like dope beats, well … they’ve been absent from this website. Yes, if you like staring into the mouth of Hell and its vomiting dogs, you have perhaps seen my other blog. But not much music there.

Hey, as an aside, someone who does what I wish I could do with this site is dudestache.tumblr.com. He’s smarter and a better writer. Plus he updates regularly. And he’s a nice guy IRL.

This one’s for 1978’s Darkness on the Edge of Town, probably my least fave of Bruce’s essential discography. But that don’t mean it ain’t a jam, baby! Looks like the “Making of” DVD’s gonna rule (if only for smart-assed Jimmy Iovine’s commentary) and the set list for the Houston ‘78 boot looks killer …

… but what’s really got me pumped is this previously unreleased reject from the sessions, “Save My Love”. Sounds kinda like a Dylan track wrapped in E-Street packaging. Enjoy!

Let’s get down to it — I recently conducted an “interview” with Mahjongg’s Hunter Husar (most of the questions were pulled from various untrustworthy sources) for my buddies’ awesome new zine Sundae Mag. OK, sure, the magazine was named after the tasty dessert treat, and all the songs I selected (I believe) have more to do with the day of the week. But I’m not creative like that. Plus there aren’t a lot of bands with songs about ice cream sundaes (gelato, yes). So yeah, here … we … GO!

So I’ve been missin’ you. Or maybe it’s the other way around? Craigslist’s missed connections is a curious thing. It has inspired this mix of songs that are related to missing a connection. In addition, I recently had an interaction (an IRL interaction) with Craigslist’s missed connections board. The surprising promptness and accuracy of the connection Craigslist re-established for me has perhaps given me a likely imperfect sketch of its efficacy. Surely these connections will remain broken?

Am I being too vague? People talking on bananas? Orange you just glad I made another mix?
