Even though I’m probably busier than I’ve been in a while, can’t help but get the feeling that I’m a lazy sack of sassafras. Maybe it’s because I slept probably 40 hours this weekend, or that I can’t function in the morning without a half gallon of coffee. This week’s mix is all about slidin’ back on the front porch, lettin’ your feet up, crackin’ a brew and lettin’ it stew. Play it … kinda loud. Or quiet. I dunno. Just chill wit’ it.

01. Mendocino / Sir Douglas Quintet These guys were all about the chillin’.
02. Down on the Corner / Creedence Clearwater Revival Ahh, Willie and His Poor Boys. CCR is something I definitely need to hear on a lazy day.
03. Lazy Days / Flying Burrito Brothers This was a surprisingly low-key way to kick off the band’s second album, but the song is a grower.
04. Music To Commit Suicide By / Roy Wood The UK B-side to Roy’s classic “Forever”.
05. Lazy Bones / Jackie Mittoo See dem bones a dancin’!
06. Things We Like To Do / NRBQ Adorable cornballs!
07. Trouble / Little Feat I missed the Feat play the Hardly Strictly Fest here in SF a few weeks back, but something tells me I wouldn’t have been missing a whole bunch.
08. Close My Eyes / Arthur Russell Strange that Russell would show up on this mix, but this song grabbed me during its use in the spectacular Wild Combination documentary on the avant-garde icon.
09. Dire Wolf / Grateful Dead Sorry, dumb song titles or not, the Dead have them some jamz. And laaaaaaazy jamz at that.
10. Jigsaw Puzzle / Rolling Stones Sitting around doing a jigsaw puzzle has got to be up there with the World’s Laziest Activities …
11. Zurich Is Stained / Pavement Zurich is stained, an’ I’m too lazy to clean it up …
12. I’m So Tired / The Beatles Sooooo sreeeepy … sooooo tiled …
13. Albatross / Fleetwood Mac This early-period Mac hit never fails to get me in a good mood.

SIDE B

14. Ballad of Easy Rider / The Byrds Easy ridin’ down that troublesome American road of freedom … sweet freedoms …
15. Naked, If I Want To / Moby Grape Well, if you want to, sure!
16. Wigwam / Bob Dylan From Dylan’s puzzling mish-mash Self Portrait. Hardly anything on it that’s salvageable, but this gem sticks out of the bunch.
17. (Is Anybody Going To) San Antone / Doug Sahm We’ve used it before, but it’s so perfect I’m gonna pull a repeat.
18. Fresher Than The Sweetness In Water / The Honeybus All aboard the Honeybus! First stop, sunny times lane!
19. Lazy Sunday / The Small Faces From the band’s a-little-too-British Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake.
20. Lazy Bones / Esquivel Now wiggle dem lazy bones!
21. Sunny Afternoon / The Kinks The sunny time afternoon
22. End Of A Century / Blur Oh I missed this jam. Shouldn’t have let it go for so long …
23. Let The Good Times Roll / Harry Nilsson Jammin’ time.
24. Braces Tower Dub / Augustus Pablo No one looks more chilled than Augustus sitting by a river playing his melodica.
25. Stay Loose / Belle & Sebastian So chilled out they let the song go on for six minutes …
26. Aquarela do Brasil / Erasmo Carlos Ah, my numero uno lazy times song.

That Beatles picture is amazing.
“Zurich Is Stained” is my favorite Pavement song.
I’m surprised how many of these songs have the word ‘lazy’ in the title.

i’m surprised how effective doing a search on my hard drive makes a good mix tape for me!
